Mycenaean Bridge

location of the Mycenaean bridge Mycenaean bridge

Within sight of the citadel and next to the Agios Ioannis church are the remains of a Mycenaean bridge crossing the Khavos ravine. Only one half of the bridge built of courses of large boulders is preserved, the rest has collapsed into the ravine. It is part of the Mycenaean "highway no. 4" that led from the Lion Gate to the South toward what was probably a settlement in the area of the Argive Heraion and perhaps further south to Tiryns.
